Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is grounded by three elements in the practice, known together as “tristhana”. It designates the three places our attention or action should be concentrated during our asana practice. This first is posture, or asana, to bring strength and flexibility to the body. The second is breathing and is to be steady and even so as to purify the nervous system. The third is the gaze of the eyes, or looking place. It is to be controlled and directed steadily so as to stabilize the mind. According to the old KPJAYI website, “these three are very important for yoga practice, and cover three levels of purification: the body, nervous system and mind. They are always performed in conjunction with each other.” This workshop will focus on developing an understanding of these concepts and the integration of them into your practice.
